Suburb Profiles

Dundas Valley

Just 3km south west of Carlingford is Dundas Valley, originally known as “The Ponds”.  A small and leafy suburb set as the geographical centre of Sydney. Located 21km north-west of the Sydney CBD and just 6KM to Parramatta CBD. The suburb is home to 4,750 people across a 3,650 square kilometres.

A large part of Dundas and Dundas Valley covers Darug nation lands which have been occupied for thousands of years. The remains of open camps, shellfish middens and animal bones as well as charcoal drawings have been found.

In 1788, it was estimated the Wallumedegal population was between two to three thousand, but following the smallpox epidemic in 1789 the population was decimated.

Dundas Valley was officially called a suburb in 2006 and has always been favoured for the various parks and famous Pond Walking Track. The suburb of Dundas began to grow quickly after orchard land was subdivided in 1902 and 1905 following the extension of the railway.
